Food Truck and Brewery Battle

Kicking off the Salt Awards

Voting for the 2017 Salt Awards began on Aug.12 at the Food Truck and Brewery Battle, where a crowd enjoyed fare from the Salt Lake Valley’s newest food trucks and samples from local breweries.

Throughout the beautiful summer evening, performers, DJs and U92 All Stars kept The Gateway in Salt Lake City hopping with tunes and giveaways.

Attendees tried pizza cones, vegan nachos, seafood gumbo, crispy falafel and more as trucks that have opened for business over the past 18 months vied for the Salt Award for best new food truck. The Salt Awards are The Salt Lake Tribune’s annual celebration of emerging talent and experiences.

The winning truck was Made in Brazil, offering specialties from the South American country such as a prato feito plate with chicken and rice, coxinha, deep-fried croquettes and chocolate bridadeiros.

"We were completely surprised because we were in such great company,” said owner Anne Mouritsen. “We are so proud…I love seeing people connect with the food I grew up making.”

The winning brewery was the Roja Brewing Project.
